THEORY CLUB | TUESDAYS 5:30-7:30 PM
An exciting, new afterschool theory program welcoming young musicians to work independently in a supportive group setting. Upon registration, students receive a complimentary assessment as well as a brief interview to establish goals.
Benefit from a focused small-group environment. Meet peers with similar musical interests and goals. Complete assignments or practice exams and receive day-of feedback and guidance.
Studio Members and Non-Members are welcome.
"Theory Club" is not meant to substitute, but, rather, to supplement private instrumental and/or theory instruction. This is especially true for students who are working towards Levels 9 through ARCT Harmony, Counterpoint, and Analysis.
CONCURRENT & COMPREHENSIVE
Santoro Piano students are exposed to fundamental concepts of music theory and analysis from the first lesson at the piano. Methods include hands-on activities that are directly related to the instrument. My approach does not rely heavily on "bookwork," especially in the first few months. Students will develop their understanding of theoretical concepts by hearing them in action. Practical applications include "Say Then Play" with note-reading flashcards, "Transposition Game" as with one or more pieces from the student's weekly repertoire assignments, "Solfege Singing," and much more.
Students who wish to earn comprehensive certificates for their RCM practical exams are required to take theory co-requisite exams. Contact Nadia Santoro to inquire about private, semi-private, and group theory options.
Studio members should plan to book additional time for theory instruction outside of their weekly piano lesson once they are studying either piano or theory at RCM Level 5 and up.
